Crowds greet the first train from Kyiv to arrive in Kherson since the Russians left the city

Cheering crowds gathered on Saturday, November 19, to greet the first train to arrive in Kherson from Kyiv since Russian troops left the city. On November 17, Ukraine Railways announced services would resume in the eastern city for the first time since the Russian invasion. A train left Kyiv the following day and arrived in Kherson on November 19. Video from Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne shows the train arriving at Kherson’s main train station as people waving national flags gather on platforms and a pedestrian bridge to watch. Hear chants of “Slava Ukraine!” (Glory to Ukraine). A delegation from the European Commission, led by its Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis, attended the opening ceremony in Kyiv the night before. As part of the event, a concert was held at the main train station, local Vechirny Kyiv news agency reported. Around 200 passengers boarded the train, including Culture and Information Policy Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko, the report added.
