Media personality Bonang Matheba is the first African star to partner with footwear, clothing and accessories brand Steve Madden.
The announcement was made on Tuesday morning. The brand said it was part of its 10-year celebration in Africa.
Bonang’s fashion collection
Bonang is doing her part by selecting six shoe styles and two handbag styles “which the style icon believes embody the celebratory mood of a South African summer,” the statement said.
Here the selection is festive, just in time for Christmas. The style choices cater to their fashion identity.
Bonang said, “I was looking for styles that would be great for taking the holidays, partying in, dancing the night away, or even being the perfect gift to treat someone special to the holiday season.”

The spring and summer collections will be available online and in stores from November 6th. The official presentation will take place on November 7th in Cape Town at the Zeitz Mocaa Museum.
Other celebrities who have collaborated with big brands
Minnie Dlamini partnered with global fashion brand Ipanema in late 2021. The TV presenter has signed up for her summer 2021 campaign, Summer Belongs to Ipanema.
Dlamini was the first SA brand ambassador. The beach sandal collection is 100% vegan and made from recyclable material.
“Sustainability and social responsibility [have] was always very important to me. Collaborating with a brand that is 100% recyclable, vegan and committed to preserving the beauty of this planet and making every woman look fashionable with technology that gives us lasting comfort,” she wrote on Instagram.
The collection consists of a variety of sandal styles in various bright colors that they believe will be the focal point of any beach outfit in SA.

Perhaps most notable of late is fashion designer Theba Magugu’s collaboration with global luxury brand Christian Dior.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “Proud to introduce my new capsule in collaboration with DIOR (@dior); one that benefits CTAOP (@ctaop) – a foundation set up by my South African compatriot Charlize Theron (@charlizeafrica) that invests in the health, education and safety of young people in southern Africa.
“Maria Grazia Chiuri (@mariagraziachiuri) asked me to use Dior’s iconic ‘New Look’ as a baseline silhouette, which I interpreted through a variety of key garments. The collection features our iconic Sisterhood emblem – representative of the themes of unity and empowerment prevalent in the work of Maria Grazia and I – on a cotton t-shirt, yellow silk twill scarf, the emblematic #DiorBookTote and more .”
