It’s “unclear” why human sperm counts are falling

A new study shows human sperm counts are declining rapidly and the reason is “unclear,” says Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand President Dr. Luke Rombauts.

“It was mainly counted in Europe, North America and Australia, and not so much in Africa and Asia, which seemed to have the problem,” Mr Rombauts told Sky News Australia.

“Probably it has to be lifestyle factors, it has to be potentially environmentally toxic substances like pesticides and other things

“We know that obesity is a really big problem in North America and unfortunately also in Australia, and it’s well known that obesity leads to a whole host of health problems, including lower sperm count.”
