Frankston Hospital: Crane collapses on an inpatient unit

A crane has reportedly collapsed at Frankston Hospital, forcing more than 50 people to be evacuated.

A caller, who identified herself as Sally, told Melbourne radio station 3AW on Wednesday morning that a large crane had fallen on the hospital’s inpatient ward.

Images from 3AW show the crane crashing through the hospital’s roof.

“The place has been evacuated,” the caller said.

“It (the crane) is quite big,” she said.

A spokesman for Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed the reports.

“FRV was called to Frankston Hospital just before 10 a.m. today with reports that a crane had fallen into one of the hospital buildings,” the spokesman told NCA Newswire.

“Crews arrived within five minutes and assisted in the evacuation of about 50 inmates and will remain on site,” they said.
The spokesman said no casualties were reported.

Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and Frankston SES have been contacted.
