CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – All Cleveland Hopkins International Airport flights have been ordered to ground or be diverted from CLE on one of the busiest travel days of the year after a car drove through an airfield gate onto the runway, the Cleveland Hopkins International confirmed Airports .

The incident happened on 11/23 at around 8:45 p.m., the night before Thanksgiving.

After the suspect drove through the west gate onto the tarmac to escape police, he left the car on the runway and attempted to run away, according to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport said Cleveland police soon apprehended the suspect.

“In order to maintain the highest level of security, operations have been temporarily suspended,” said Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

All incoming flights were diverted, and takeoffs at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport faced delays.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport said normal airport operations had resumed.

According to a spokesman for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, there was no risk to the safety of anyone in the terminal.
