Brighton Beach, South Australia: Shark sighted from the jetty

People on a South Australian beach have been warned of a giant shark that was yards from a popular swimming spot.

Authorities warned that a three meter shark was sighted on Brighton beach around 3.30pm on Friday.

The creature was seen just 10 meters from the jetty, according to SA police.

“Swimmers are advised to leave the water,” police said.

The sighting came after shark patrols began on South Australian beaches for the summer season.

Hartwig Air patrols operate daily between 10:00am and 7:30pm from North Haven to Rapid Bay.

If a shark is sighted that could pose a safety hazard, sirens will sound and the aircraft will circle the area where it was sighted.
