Philip Davis, the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, once touted the arrival of FTX in the Bahamas as an example of the professionalism of Bahamian securities regulators in ensuring that “good players come into this space as opposed to bad players.”

Less than nine months after Davis vowed to move FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried to the island nation, Bahamas financial crime officials kidnapped the former billionaire from his multimillion-dollar penthouse apartment and held him pending extradition government custody.

On Tuesday, Bankman-Fried had traded his signature FTX T-shirt and shorts for a blue jacket and white button-down pants in court when attorneys asked a judge to release him on $250,000 bail an ankle monitor.

Bankman-Fried’s parents watched as a Bahamian judge quashed any chance of Bankman-Fried’s return to his home. Citing a “great” risk of absconding, the Bahamian judiciary returned Bankman-Fried to jail until his next scheduled hearing on February 24. 08/08/2023.

His parents, Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, gave him a goodbye hug before Bahamian law enforcement took Bankman-Fried out of the courtroom and into the notorious HMP Fox Hill prison, where he is being held on the medical unit, according to Reuters.
