These easy fork biscuits are a favorite of English food writer, chef, baker and TV presenter Mary Berry.
Mary, who is also the author of My Kitchen Table: 100 Sweet Treats and Puds, said these biscuits first appeared in an old red cordon bleu cookbook. She’s been doing them for years ever since.
Follow their easy recipe and enjoy your fork biscuits with a hot cup of tea or serve them to friends, family and other visitors this festive season.
- 100 g soft butter
- 50 g (2 ounces) powdered sugar
- 150 g self-raising flour
You will also need two baking sheets.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C for gas stoves).
Lightly butter two baking sheets.
Measure the butter into a bowl and beat until soft.
Gradually beat in the sugar, then the flour. Knead the mixture into a dough with your hands.
Form 16 walnut-sized balls from the dough and place them well apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Dip a fork in some water and use it to flatten the biscuits.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until very lightly golden.
Remove from the baking sheet and let cool completely on a wire rack.
