The situation on flights to and from the country is extremely tense, with only four days left until Christmas. All international flights were canceled on Monday, with many more canceled on Tuesday.
Reykjanesbraut, the road connecting the airport and Reykjavik city, is currently impassable. Passengers and crew were trapped either in the city or at the airport.
The airport is open but it is up to the airlines to decide whether to land or not.
