A four-year-old is trapped in an Airlie Beach claw machine after trying to steal teddy bears

A four-year-old girl got stuck in a claw machine when a plan to snatch a teddy bear went awry.

Mum Melanie Pike was at a pub in Airlie Beach, Queensland, when she discovered her daughter Poppy was trapped in one of the entertainment items.

“The girls were playing outside and the next minute my twin daughters ran in and were like, ‘Mom, Poppy’s stuck in the machine.'”

In fact, the girl was found inside the claw machine completely distraught, surrounded by stuffed animals and wondering how she herself would get out, Channel 7 News reported.

Poppy had been sent on a mission by her sisters to snatch some teddy bears out of the machine. While some were found scattered on the ground around the machine, Poppy didn’t know how to get out after the fiendish crime spree.

“My partner was shocked but I just started laughing,” Ms Pike said.

“How do we get you out?” she said to the sad looking Poppy.

A rescue plan was hatched, after which Poppy sat in the machine and was then gently pulled by her legs through the opening she had squeezed herself through.

“Have you learned your lesson? Are you going to steal any more?” Ms Pike asked her daughter.

“No,” a now much happier looking Poppy replied.

However, some people online had sympathy for the young girl, considering how difficult it is to actually get a prize on the machines.

“The only way you’re ever going to get one of those claw prizes is by stealing it,” said one.

It’s not the first time a child has crawled into a claw machine in search of toys.

In 2018, firefighters had to rescue a boy in Florida who embarked on a claw machine operation.

In Titusville, east of Orlando, Mason climbed into a small opening in the back of the machine to retrieve a toy he had his eye on. Then he couldn’t find his way anymore.

However, Mason was having so much fun that he cried when rescuers tried to extricate him.

In 2017, a three-year-old got stuck in a toy vending machine at a shop in Rouse Hill, north-west Sydney.

Comments on a Facebook post suggested several other children were stuck in the same machine in the past.

It’s not just little people; Cats have also been known to crawl into claw machines. A cat was pictured very happy in her cozy glass and metal box, relaxing on a sea of teddy bears and wondering what all the fuss was about.
