Melbourne: Therapy dog returned on Christmas morning, woman charged

A Melbourne woman has celebrated her ‘best’ Christmas ever after police located and returned her therapy dog, which she allegedly stole the previous day.

She knocked on her front door just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning to find two officers, Sergeant T. Fletcher and Constable A. Tran, outside with their beloved pet, Kyron.

Kyron, a fox terrier, disappeared outside a supermarket on Mt Alexander Rd in north Melbourne around 8.45pm on Christmas Eve after the woman stopped to pick up supplies.

A spokeswoman for Victoria Police said officers received a lead early on Christmas morning about the missing dog that Kyron allegedly located at a house in Essendon.

“The suspected Grinch, a 26-year-old woman from Essendon, has been arrested and charged with theft,” she said.

When Kyron was returned to its owner a short time later, the spokeswoman said the woman told officers it was the “best Christmas present she’s ever received.”
