Incidents involving sharks are “extremely low” given the regular encounters.

Macquarie University Professor Culum Brown says the number of shark incidents is “extremely low” given how often sharks are sighted offshore.

“The number of people killed by sharks could average one or two a year,” Mr Brown told Sky News Australia.

“People are becoming more aware of the fact that sharks are always around, especially as we’re discarding drones more and more.”
