Port Kennedy, Perth: Bushfire emergency declared, homes and lives at risk

A bushfire threatens lives and homes in the Port Kennedy suburb of Rockingham, south Perth.

A bushfire emergency warning has been issued for an area bounded by Bakewell Drive, Ennis Avenue, San Sebastian Boulevard and Port Kennedy Drive.

Monitoring and action is also current for a larger area around the fire zone.

The fire broke out just before 9.30am AWST near the junction of Bakewell Drive and Paxton Way on Thursday and flared up in the early afternoon as temperatures in the area soared into the low 30s.

Fifty-five firefighters from the Professional Fire and Rescue Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, and Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service are actively fighting the fire, while air support has been dispatched to support the ground crews.

The fire is currently stationary but still out of control.
