However, FIFA reportedly disputes these figures. Family members paid tribute and the Brazilian government announced a three-day national mourning following news of Pele’s death at the age of 82. President Jair Bolsonaro paid tribute on Twitter, saying, according to a machine translation, “He turned football into art and joy.” Pele’s daughter Kely Nascimento posted a photo with the caption: “Everything we are we owe to you. we love you endlessly Rest in peace,” read a machine translation.
