Almost half of the children who leave elementary school cannot swim a lap in the pool.

Justin Scarr, chief executive of the Royal Life Saving Society Australia, says: “Before the pandemic… 40 per cent of children left primary school without being able to swim a lap in the pool”.

“So we’re hearing reports of kids just not swimming as well as they used to,” he told Sky News Australia.

“We’re really worried about these kids between the ages of seven and 12.”
