Broken windows, smashed chairs, stones in the street: the damage in front of Brazil’s presidential palace and Supreme Court after the attack by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
On Sunday, hundreds stormed Congress, the presidential palace and Brazil’s Supreme Court in a dramatic protest a week after veteran leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was inaugurated as president.
The images commemorated the January 6, 2021 invasion of the US Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump, a Bolsonaro ally.
The crowd was eventually dispersed by police, but their demands were left behind in messages painted on the facade – including a call for the military to “intervene now!”
