Flood water pours down the streets in Montecito, California

Authorities issued immediate evacuations in Montecito, California, on Monday, Jan. 9, the five-year anniversary of a deadly mudslide in the area that claimed 23 lives after dangerous flooding ravaged the area. Santa Barbara County officials ordered residents of Montecito, Toro Canyon, Sycamore Canyon and Padaro Lane to evacuate immediately Monday. The National Weather Service said “dangerous life-threatening” flash floods impacted southern Santa Barbara County and central Ventura County as additional heavy rain rolled into the area.
