Born an endangered chimpanzee at Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo has welcomed its new addition – a baby western chimpanzee who was born on December 9 after an eight-month pregnancy to help boost conservation efforts. Great ape experts say the newcomer is in good health and has spent his first few weeks with his mother and the zoo’s remaining 22 western chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are born with a tuft of white hair on their buttocks and have until puberty to signal others in the group to be gentle with them.
