“Many people” with addiction experience have a childhood trauma: psychotherapist

South Pacific private psychotherapist Diane Young says people who have an addiction generally have childhood trauma, which could stem from a person carrying the “shadow of family.”

She said in general, people who have experienced childhood trauma “don’t feel safe in the world”.

“Many people who experience addiction have had childhood trauma, not everyone who has experienced childhood trauma becomes addicted,” she told Sky News Australia.
