South Africa, meet the flagship Huawei Mate50 Pro

South African consumer device group Huawei is starting the year with a bang by releasing what it calls “an exciting new lineup” in January. At the top of the lineup set to launch this year is the brand’s high-end, futuristic flagship smartphone, the Mate50 Pro.

The Huawei FreeBuds 5i and the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 inch follow.

Mate series

The brand prides itself on having consistently pursued groundbreaking innovations and considers its Mate series to be “the crown jewel of its relentless efforts to bring cutting-edge technology to smartphones”.

According to Huawei, the Mate series differentiates itself from other high-end flagship models with each generation, integrating visionary features that offer consumers the ultimate digital experience.

Mate50 Pro specifications

The latest iteration of the flagship series features an iconic symmetrical space ring design, an amazing Ultra Aperture XMAGE camera and extremely reliable performance on top of the exceptional Super Device features spearheaded by the EMUI 13 operating system.

“The Huawei Mate50 Pro embodies the technological advances and innovations of the brand’s flagships. It has industry-first features such as the Ultra Aperture XMAGE, which features a unique optical system with 10 physical aperture size adjustments via adjustable blades. The smartphone’s Kunlun glass is certified 5-star glass drop resistance by the Swiss SGS,” Huawei vice president of operations Akhram Mohamed said in a statement.

“These elements, among others, make Huawei truly proud to launch the Huawei Mate50 Pro in South Africa, reflecting the brand’s commitment to exploring the endless frontiers of technology,” concluded Mohamed.

How does the Mate50 compare?

According to the manufacturer, the device, which is set to launch this week, has huge advantages over the competition in terms of design, rear camera system, new reinforced glass, battery and wireless charging.

This makes the smartphone a must-have for 2023.

The Huawei Mate50 Pro is available for pre-order from the Huawei online store or from select carriers including Vodacom, MTN, Telkom and Cell C.
